Dr Pillai (Baba) on why spiritual people have money hang-ups!

Namaste everyone,

One of the most attractive things about Dr Pillai (Baba)’s teachings is that it challenges the norm of what it means to walk the spiritual path.

Baba does not advocate suffering or austerities in the name of enlightenment – in fact, in one of His most ground-breaking seminars I caught on video many years ago, Baba said you can get enlightened while staying and meditating in the Four Seasons Hotel than going to the Himalayas. I thought that was a pretty revolutionary thing to say at that time and I still do!

Baba also defies conventional wisdom that you must be poor/shun wealth in order to walk the spiritual path.  I used to think that and then I read a brilliant article Baba wrote sometime back in July 2001 (when He was known as Sri Siva) which effectively challenged my worldview of what it meant to be spiritual and also helped me understand why I had negative programming about money.

Baba teaches how you can have your cake and eat it too by giving you the tools and techniques to claim your 200% life: 100% spirituality and 100% materiality! In a recent interview, Baba said:

I have always said that God is not poor so why not live both spiritual and material lives. We need to understand that to be religious or spiritual doesn’t mean we should be poor. That is why I used to tell people don’t go to the Himalayas go to the Four Seasons you will have a better meditation!
